Multi-jurisdictional task force catches 3 in series of burglaries across multiple counties

GENESEO, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday said they have solved a series of "smash and grab" commercial burglaries across multiple counties.

Law enforcement officials from New York State Police, Genesee, Wayne, Livingston and Monroe county sheriff’s offices, the Rochester Police Department and New York State and Genesee County probation departments worked together to solve these crimes.

“We reached out to our fellow agencies around us,” said Chief Deputy Dan Rittenhouse of Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. “We got together, we sat down, compared notes and obviously based on what we found, we could pretty much sum up that it was these people involved.”

On Oct. 26, Livingston County Sheriff Deputies responded to a business in the Town of Conesus for the report of a break-in where $3,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen.

Investigators say they quickly developed suspects in that burglary who they were already familiar with based on dozens of similar gas station burglaries and larcenies that happened in Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, Genesee, Wyoming and Ontario counties dating back to 2020.

“They [the burglaries] were all committed overnight, nothing during the day. All the businesses were closed. They walked up to the front door, took a big rock, smashed the front window out, ran in and were in and out of the store in less than a minute. They stole as many cigarettes as they could,” Rittenhouse added.

As a result, law enforcement formed a task force to share information and evidence. During the course of the investigation, Eric Smith, 35, of Rochester and Kristina Marble, 26, of Scottsville were identified as suspects.

Both were both arrested and charged for the burglary in Conesus. A third suspect, identified as Andrew Duckworth, 42, of Batavia, was arrested and charged with burglary in Wayne County. He was released on his own recognizance.

Additional charges are expected in this case. Both Smith and Marble are being held without bail.

Investigators say Smith was on parole for the 2020 crimes on Oct. 12, 2021, and the first known burglary occurred on Oct. 15, 2021, in the Town of Marion, Wayne County and Marble was given a sentence of probation for the 2020 crimes, and had been on post-release supervision since she was sentenced in July of 2020.
