ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A parolee is in custody following a chase that ended with a crash into a building.

It started at around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday on Hudson Avenue near Friederich Park.

Police say an investigator saw Kharye Jarvis, 48, hit someone in the head with a gun multiple times before driving off.

Officers tried to pull Jarvis over at Hudson Avenue and Alphonse Street, but police say Jarvis drove off before crashing about half a mile later into a building on Hudson Avenue.

As Jarvis was being taken in he tried to pull his gun out, but officers say they disarmed him. Police say it was an illegally possessed, loaded handgun.

Jarvis is currently on parole for a manslaughter charge.

He was charged with second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole.
