First Alert Weather: Light showers overnight, more widespread rain by Friday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A cold front has slid through the area, and the showers follow.

These will be fairly light tonight, with about a tenth of an inch for most of us, and falling late Tuesday evening through the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday. In fact, most won’t even know it rained, with a mainly clear sky as you’re getting up and walking out the door. It’ll be a little cooler on Wednesday, but more seasonable with highs in the lower to mid-50s under a mostly sunny sky.

Thursday will see more clouds moving back in, and a bit of a breeze out of the southeast bumping out temperatures back into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Rain arrives Thursday night and lasts into Friday morning, with a more widespread rain with this storm. Still, rainfall amounts will be within reason, and most spots pick up less than a half-inch of rain. Friday morning will start off wet, but rain tapers off as temperatures fall back through the 50s into the 40s late. Winds may gust to 40 mph Thursday night as the cold front moves through.

The weekend will be much more classic November, with a chillier breeze, and a mix of rain and some wet snow showers. These will be lake-enhanced showers, and the best chance of seeing a coating to a few inches of snow through the weekend will be in the higher terrain of the western Southern Tier. The Bristol Hills may pick up on a coating by the end of the weekend, but we do not expect any accumulation in and around Rochester this weekend. There are some signs that cold air sticks around long enough to perhaps see our first coating of snow early next week closer to Rochester.
