ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Markets finalized their merger Monday.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved the two Upstate NY grocery chains’ merger, announced earlier this year, according to Supermarket News.

The two companies will be managed locally and will still be known by their established names, but a new parent company called Northeast Grocery Inc., based out of Schenectady, will own and oversee the approximately 300 stores.

Scott Grimmett, the current president and CEO of Price Chopper/Market 32, will lead Northeast Grocery Inc. and serve on its board of directors.

Former Tops Markets chairman and CEO Frank Curci will also serve on the board.

Price Chopper is known for operating in-store restaurants and business journalists have speculated it could bring some of that expertise to Tops to help it better compete with Wegmans.
