ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A wonderful weather day is expected on Friday as sunshine will be in abundance and temperatures will once again make their way into the mid and low 70s.
Friday afternoon, we will also be a bit breezy with gusts around 20mph from the northwest, but no need for the umbrella today. However, the dry weather does not last through this weekend.
An area of low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coastline will help pop up an afternoon shower or thunderstorm across our region Saturday. A washout is not expected but heads up for a shower or two through the afternoon.
Then, a cold front will approach our region from the west on Sunday. This will bring us a better chance for showers, but even then a washout is still not expected Sunday. As of now, it looks like a few spotty showers early before scattered showers towards the middle of the day.
In the afternoon, the cold front will move east and things are looking towards drying out with lingering showers on the backside. Temperatures this weekend will also remain on the cooler side with highs in the mid and low 70s.
Drier weather is expected to start off next week before a gradual warmup with highs back in the 80s by Wednesday afternoon. This warmup likely lingers through the rest of the work week, but uncertainty remains on if it will linger into the following weekend. This is due to a retrograding upper level trough that models have swinging in next weekend.
This same upper level low that models have swinging in next weekend is the same upper level low that has brought us cool weather through the majority of June so far.
With the retrograding upper level low the upper level ridge, that will bring us milder weather next week, will have to move back west as well.
This means we are in the battleground between these two upper level forces. So, any fluctuations in the placement of either, the ridge or trough, will determine how warm or cool we end up. Also, if we end up in the middle of the fight, the upper level northwesterly flow will then favor an unsettled stretch of weather with plenty of changes for thunderstorms. Plenty of weather to track next week!
