First Alert Weather: Mild this week, but flakes return by the weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monday’s temperatures were a good 10-20 degrees warmer than average, but you know the saying — "what goes up, must come down." And this will be true for our temperatures.

We’ll remain warmer than average much of this week, with highs near 60 on Tuesday, the 50s on Wednesday, back to near 60 on Thursday, then dropping on Friday with a cold front. A strong area of low pressure will plow through Friday, bringing a return of chillier air with highs in the 40s next weekend, and the chance for some mixed rain and wet snow showers.

That’ll be our next big weather maker, but our weather will remain fairly tranquil until then. A weak cold front will slide through Tuesday afternoon, with a slow decline in temperatures during the afternoon, and the best chance for a few showers coming during the evening and overnight, but any rain will be gone by Wednesday morning. In fact, we’ll see a clearing sky with more sunshine on Wednesday. Thursday will turn breezy ahead of that next storm system, with a more impressive round of rain developing Thursday night into Friday morning. Friday will dry out, but cool down following the cold front.

As far as accumulating snow, any accumulation should be confined to the higher terrain of the western Southern Tier over the weekend, and perhaps a coating in the Bristol Hills. The First Alert Weather Team will monitor any changes to this forecast, and bring them to you on-air and here online.
