ROCHESTER, N.Y. — In honor of Heart Month, Rochester Regional Health is hosting a series of free CPR training courses on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Participants will learn how to recognize when someone needs CPR, perform CPR, use an AED, and help a choking adult or child. The course is for people who want to know CPR for personal use, not to become professionally certified.
The sessions will be held at Rochester General College of Health Careers on 470 Skyview Parkway. The first session on Feb. 18 is from 9 to 10 a.m. and the second session is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. You can sign up here.
When administered immediately, CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. A doctor of neurology at Rochester Regional Health explained why we need as many people as possible to know the life-saving procedure.
“The more people we have in our communities who know how to do good, quality CPR, the better. So, whether it’s a loved one or a stranger at the grocery store that you don’t even know, if you can help them and you have the training and skills to do so, that’s the best possible way to help them have a good recovery. So, we always advocate time is brain, time is heart, time is life,” said Dr. John Holton-Burke of the Neurology department.
