Gov. Hochul signs off on several bills to curb gun violence

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Thursday released a series of new bills aimed to curb gun violence in the state, including guns you can make yourself.

Among the bills:

  • Work to criminalize the sale of ghost guns and close loopholes for people making their own weapons.
  • Bans unfinished frames or receivers unless you’re a licensed gunsmith or dealer.
  • Amends the definition of a disguised gun to help crackdown on the use of guns made to look like toys.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo previously declared gun violence as a "disaster emergency" for the state. His administration carved out a seven-point plan, which included targeting violent hotspots and early youth intervention.
