Rochester Police, US Marshals arrest Rochester man for crimes in Dewey Avenue area

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police and investigators from the United States Marshals Service arrested a man at the scene of an investigation on Dewey Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

According to News10NBC reporter Raven Brown, the investigation was in the area of where an Edison Tech student was shot while heading to the bus stop Wednesday morning. That shooting happened in the area of Alameda Street and Dewey Avenue. However, investigators said the two investigations are not related. They only said that the man arrested was wanted for recent violent crimes in the Dewey Avenue area.

Police say the man arrested is 22 and that he is from Rochester. He was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and second degree assault for a crime that occurred on Oct. 10, 2021, and he was charged with second degree menacing for a crime that occurred on Sept. 23, 2021.

Police say that’s all they can release at this time.

Brown reports detectives and officers could be seen walking into the Aquinas Commons apartment building, which is at the corner of Dewey and Augustine Street.

A Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy car could also be seen. All three are part of a Fugitive Task Force, though it’s not clear what this specific investigation is.

Police told Brown a release on the investigation will be shared later.
