RPD: Gun recovered after chase involving car in which man was found unresponsive

UPDATE: Rochester Police say they found a loaded handgun during a foot pursuit that followed a car chase on Wednesday. After the chase, officers found a man inside the car who was unresponsive and later died.
The two people taken into custody, ages 16 and 19, are both charged with criminal possession of a weapon. The 16-year-old boy was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after RPD officers suspected him of possessing fentanyl.
The 16-year-old was taken to the Monroe County Children’s Center. Police identified the 19-year-old as Ephraim Wade.
RPD hasn’t yet released the name of the person who died. The investigation is continuing and RPD is awaiting results from the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two people are in custody for leading Rochester Police on a brief car chase on Wednesday. Police are trying to determine how a third man found inside their car wound up dead.
On Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. there is a heavy police presence on Saratoga and Ambrose. News10NBC is on the scene and we will update the story as we learn more.
RPD says the chase started on Bloss Street after officers received a call for help around 12:30 p.m. The caller claimed the two people were possibly loading a body into a car.
Officers responded and tried to stop the car. Police say the driver sped off, leading them on a short chase. Lt. Greg Bello says the driver crashed into a tree and parked the car at the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Ambrose Street.
According to RPD, the two people then got out and tried to run. Police were able to take both people into custody. Police say that, besides a handgun recovered at the scene, they also found an unresponsive man in the car. Ambulance crews arrived and tried to save him but he died.
“He’s an adult-aged male. I don’t have an exact age or ID at this point. The medical examiner is responding to ultimately help us determine the cause of death, and what ultimately led up to this situation,” said RPD Lt. Greg Bello.
As part of their investigation, officers surrounded a house on Bloss Street, which was searched by members of the SWAT team for any additional possible victims. None were found.
There is also a school nearby but police say no students were ever in danger. The identity of the man who died has not been released yet.
