RPD releases name of officer involved in deadly Family Dollar shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police Department Friday released the name of the officer involved in the shooting at the Family Dollar on West Main Street earlier this month.
Police say the officer who shot and killed the suspect of a robbery in progress at the store on Oct. 6 is Officer John Boyle, a 2-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department.
Boyle was placed on administrative assignments for the duration of the investigation into the incident in accordance with RPC policy after any officer-involved shooting.
On Oct. 8, police identified the man who was shot and killed in the incident as 4-year-old Simran S. Gordon. On Oct. 7, police said that the suspect was a suspect in three recent homicides.
Police say employees were being held at gunpoint when Boyle and the other responding officer arrived at the store that night, and that Gordon fired upon officers, who then returned fire.

Gordon’s family has told News10NBC they question the official account of events.
Investigations by the State Attorney General’s Office and the Rochester Police Department into the incident are still underway.
