Hochul: $290M green energy substation coming to Genesee County, 60+ jobs to be added

ALABAMA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A major green energy development is coming to our region, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday.
During a news conference in Alabama, Genesee County, Hochul announced the construction of a $290 million green energy hydrogen substation, which will be built in the town.
The governor says the facility, which will be built by Plug Power, will be the largest of its kind in North America.
"To invest in here and to send a message that this project is important enough to have your investments, but also the transfer of electricity here and power here and the conversion into green hydrogen — that’s not happening anywhere else," Hochul said. "Nowhere else are they being that creative. It’s happening here in Genesee County."
The company already building a facility in Henrietta that is expected to bring about 380 jobs to the Rochester area.

The facility in Genesee County is expected to create 68 jobs. The Empire State Development will back the project with up to $2 million in Excelsior Tax Credits in exchange for its commitment to creating the jobs.
