Report: FDA planning to allow ‘mix and match’ COVID-19 boosters

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is planning to allow a "mix and match" approach when it comes to booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to The New York Times, citing "people familiar with the agency’s planning", the agency will allow people to get a different vaccine as a booster than the one they initially received.

The government would not recommend one shot over another.

The news comes as the FDA is expected to authorize boosters of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines by Wednesday evening, and could allow the mix and match approach by then.
