OAKFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Genesee County man is facing a second-degree murder charge for allegedly killing his father.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call on Sunday around 11 a.m. from a family member of 69-year-old Martin Maher. The family member was not able to reach Martin and requested a welfare check.

Deputies responded to the home on Drake Street in Oakfield and found Martin dead inside the home. Deputies ruled the death a homicide.

After investigating, deputies arrested Martin’s son, 37-year-old Nicholas M. Maher, who also resided at the home. Nicholas was located in Erie County and was taken into custody.

Nicholas M. Maher is charged with murder in the second and was arraigned at the Town of Oakfield Court. He was taken to the Genesee County Jail in the lieu of no bail.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office believes this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
