ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — One person is dead, one in critical condition, and four suspects are in custody after the driver of a stolen car crashed into another vehicle Sunday afternoon. Rochester Police say two of the four suspects that were inside the stolen vehicle were released from jail a few weeks ago, one of them on a stolen vehicle charge.

"This is probably one of the worst accident scenes I’ve seen in a long time, the force of the impact was just incredible.,” Captain Frank Umbrino said, with the Rochester police department.

Out the four suspects, two were recently released from jail and one had multiple warrants out for their arrest. Police say the stolen vehicle involved in this crash was taken about a week ago from a lot on West Ridge Road.

"One of the people in the car gets caught stealing a car three or four weeks ago, gets a ticket, now he’s out again, and somebody’s dead,” Umbrino said.

Investigators say they noticed the stolen car near Jefferson Avenue, Sunday afternoon, and that’s when the car sped off.

"On Whittlesley Alley and Seward Street, the stolen vehicle t-boned the other vehicle that was heading southbound,” Umbrino said.

Police say the impact of the crash was so devastating that the car that was hit flew almost 70 yards down the alley, crashing through a pole and a garage.

"The vehicle that was struck, the engine compartment came out of the vehicle, that’s how fast this other car was going.”

The two victims, in the car that was struck, a male and female in their late 30’s-40’s were taken to the hospital. The woman died and the man is still in critical condition. Investigators say, after the crash, one suspect ran from the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody a short distance away. Two additional suspects’ were ejected from the vehicle on impact and one suspect was still inside when officers arrived. All four suspects were taken to the hospital. Police say, the four inside the stolen car are all in their teens or early 20’s. One of them is in critical condition and the others are stable.

"My heart goes out to the victims and their families, again, they’re just driving down the street on a Sunday afternoon and one person is dead and another is fighting for their lives because a bunch of kids who probably should be in jail are out here screwing around,” Umbrino added.

The crash is still under investigation and police say they haven’t filed any charges yet. The names of the suspects or the victims are not being released at this time.
