ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Saturday kicked off Governor Kathy Hochul’s local push to vaccinate more teenagers through the "New York State Goes Vax to School." The 90-day campaign also comes with a special incentive for all those coming to get vaccinated, so they can stay in school.

News10NBC visited one vaccination clinic hosted by Vineyard Farms located on Sander Street. Organizers of the vaccination clinic tell us despite the rainy weather they were happy with today’s turnout, and the effort to help reduce the positivity rate.

The clinics specifically target 12 to 17-year-olds. Vineyard Farms’ Sister Marsha Allen says with everyone keeping a close watch on the rising positivity rates among young teens, what better way to host a clinic right in the neighborhood.

"In April our zip code was the last in the state as far as being vaccinated. So we began to assist in vaccinations, and a lot of young people come here because of the farm, the chickens, the basketball. So it’s a good location to partner with the Vax to School program," Allen said.

Ladonna Hurell came in with her 2 sons for their second round of Pfizer shots. Getting them vaccinated is very important to her.

"Without that they can’t be around me because my immune system is like very weak, cause I have an illness," Hurell said.

She also has an 11-year-old child.

"So I’m waiting for them to okay that one so then that way my whole family is vaccinated," Hurell said.

Like so many other vaccination clinics there’s an incentive to help bring in more teens, and reverse the spread among this age group.

"We have a 14-year-old that will get a gift card, because one of the things the governor’s program is giving a $25 incentive if you’re between the age of 12, and 17 years old from Amazon," Allen said.
