Crews working through the night to restore power after ice, cold, snow blast Rochester

PITTSFORD, N.Y. The winter storm may be over, but it’s left a mark in a lot of local neighborhoods.

Hundred of people still are without power. News10NBC spoke to some people dealing with the impacts of the storm. Just over 500 RG&E customers Thursday night are still without power.

A person in Pittsford told News10NBC what has been a lifesaver for him and another person in Brighton said that what happened after two trees fell in his yard.

“My wife sent me a text about quarter to one or quarter to two saying the power had gone off. texted me around 2 p.m. and I have a daughter with special needs so I’m immediately thinking what I have to do to attend to her needs.”

Mark Bradley says RG&E doesn’t have a time for when power will be restored. He hopes it doesn’t take eight days like that horrible ice storm in 1991. He says that having a generator has been a lifesaver for his family and neighbors during winter storms.

“Everybody along this stretch here has generators and we are prepared,” he said. “I know how to get my furnace going and get my refrigerators going and I just have to move from work. I’m going to start to make sure that we are prepared for the evening so we are not too cold.”

Over in Brighton Donald Brown says he was asleep last night when two trees fell in his backyard on top of power lines. He says he contacted RG&E immediately and they should be up 45 minutes later to help.

“One fell backwards and one fell towards the house,” Brown said. “It took down my power and one of the main power lines so they had to cut that tree down.”

Donald does have power but says he has a similar problem to Mark. He loses power multiple times throughout the year whenever there’s a storm. He is worried about more trees coming down.

“I got one quote today for $1500 just to cut it up and remove it,” he said. “It’s already down. “

An RG&E utility worker said crews will be working overnight to hopefully restore power.
