First Alert Weather: Heavy rain, some thunder Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Most of the stronger storms from Friday have lifted north with a warm front. Activity will quiet down a bit for a few hours tonight, but rain and some storms will pick back up again by early Saturday morning.

This rain will be moderate to heavy for a few hours through lunchtime. While widespread flooding shouldn’t be an issue, we’ll likely see some ponding on ramps, low lying areas on roads and yards. If you typically have issues with water in your basement, be prepared to do a little cleanup. Some thunder is also likely, but the greatest threat for severe weather on Saturday will be closer to Syracuse and into eastern NYS.

Many spots will pick up another 1" of rain on Saturday, with some spots a bit more. The steadiest and heaviest rain will pull east and transition to scattered showers later in the afternoon/evening, and temperatures drop back into the 50s. Winds will pick up a bit, with some gusts 25-30 mph. This shouldn’t create any power outages, but the combination of the breeze and the rain will tend to drop a lot of leaves that are ready to come down.

Sunday will be a classic fall day with a brisk and chillier wind, lots of clouds and scattered off and on rain showers.

Brighter next week: weather will be cool and a little showery to start Monday, but high pressure building in should allow a return to some afternoon sun, with Tuesday and Wednesday looking beautiful, seeing plenty of sunshine and dry weather. We’ll stay on the cool side with highs in the 50s on Monday, then back into the 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
