AG Letitia James visits Rochester; delivers opioid settlement money

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York Attorney General Letitia James was in Rochester Thursday as she discussed her office’s ongoing work with curbing the opioid crisis.

It’s part of the AG’s "HealNY" tour. James announced the region will be receiving $53.1 million dollars in opioid settlement money. Monroe County will receive up to $14 million, and the City of Rochester will receive $5.5 million.

James says the funds will go towards treatment, prevention, and outreach. She said Monroe County has seen a 30% increase in opioid deaths over the last decade.

James previously announced the Rochester area could see millions of dollars in settlement money based on several high-profile cases against opioid manufacturers and distributors.

On a separate case, the AG’s office is currently investigating the deadly Rochester Police shooting at the Family Dollar on West Main Street. The office Wednesday released new less-edited body-worn camera footage from the shooting. The AG herself, has not commented on the case.
