Two teens plead guilty in murder of Richard Sciascia during carjacking

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two teenagers pleaded guilty on Monday to the murder of Richard Sciascia, who was shot during an attempted carjacking.

Edgar Tolentino, 17, pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree and faces 20 years to life in prison. Anthony Jacobs, also 17, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and attempted robbery. He faces 15 to 25 years.

Police said Tolentino and Jacobs shot the 71-year-old when they attempted to steal his car in Gates, on April 7, 2021. Sciascia, who died at the hospital, was traveling to see his son at a hotel when the carjacking happened.

On the one-year anniversary, more than a dozen family members of Sciascia held a memorial at the spot where he was killed.

The sentencing for the murder will be on July 20th at 2:15pm.
