PENFIELD, N.Y. News10NBC has found possible security camera video showing the car that hit an off-duty Rochester police officer at the four corners in Penfield and then drove away.
The hit-and-run happened just after 9 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Five Mile Line Road and Route 441.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says it is looking for a “compact sedan sporty model” car heading west on 441 and that’s what the security camera video we obtained appears to show.
News10NBC scoured almost a dozen businesses at the four corners and this was the only business with a security camera pointed toward the intersection. The Penfield Fire Department gave its video to Sheriff’s investigators and declined to release the footage to us.
The video was captured by a security camera on the side of the Mark’s Pizzeria store at on Five Mile Line Road and Route 441. The time on the video is 9:10 p.m., which was when the hit-and-run happened.
You can see a light colored pick up truck pull up to the intersection on the left side of the screen. Watch the truck veer to the left and drive forward.
As that happens, you can see a set of headlights, in front of the truck, that appear to show a car going in reverse.
You can then see the light colored pick up truck go through the intersection.
That is followed by a smaller, dark-colored car going through the intersection. That is the car that appears to have gone in reverse for a moment.
Emergency radio calls shortly after the incident say it was a “blue Subaru heading west on 441” which is the direction the dark-colored car is traveling.
The Sheriff’s Office says the first three letters of the car’s license plate are similar to ‘HUM’. The Sheriff’s Office says there could be damage to the passenger side.
If you have any information on this car and its driver, call the Sheriff’s tip line at (585) 753-4178.
The officer has been released from the hospital.
