ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Thursday marked a day of reflection for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as it held a wreath-laying ceremony as part of "Sheriff’s Week" across the state.

As part of the ceremony, law enforcement, county leaders and family members paid their respects for the lives lost while on duty. Sheriff Todd Baxter says the ceremony was all about reflection.

"We can never forget with the words remembrance up there, and the whole idea is that we will not forget these families," Baxter said. "Even if the families pass on, in our profession we recognize honor and we recognize nobility. and we can never let that fall off."

The 2021 edition of the week also marked the 200 years of service for the MCSO. Baxter is the 50th sheriff for the county.
