Air Show, Greek Fest, Canal Days, Junefest, and other weekend events

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — The Geneseo Airshow, Greek Festival, Fairport Canal Days, the Fast and Furriest Run, Junefest, and George Eastman House’s Nitrate Picture Show will take place this weekend. So will a Flower City Union soccer match to raise money for Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Here’s the information for the festivals, events, and games this weekend.

The Geneseo Airshow

The National Warplane Museum is holding the 41st annual Geneseo Airshow on Saturday and Sunday. News10NBC’s Emily Putnam rode on a plane featured in the airshow, Whiskey 7, a meticulously-maintained aircraft with a remarkable history. It was the lead plane in the second wave of D-Day, on June 6, 1944. Twenty-three paratroopers jumped out of it in the middle of the night, landing in Northern France.

At the airshow, you can book flights on board Whiskey 7. Tickets are available here and are between $125-150 per passenger.

Greek Festival

Greek hospitality and culture will be on display for the next four days.

The Greek Festival runs from Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The festival in the parking lot of the Greek Orthodox Church of Annunciation, 962 East Ave, features Greek food, music, and dancing.

The traditional foods served include gyro, souvlaki, spanakopita, and Moussaka. The festival also has children’s activities and offers church tours.

The proceeds of the festival, organized by the church’s parish council, go toward local charities. One of the charities this year is the youth mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rochester.

The festival was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. A festival organizer, Patty Hatzipapas, said this year’s festival allows the Greek community to celebrate their culture.

You can see the food menu, schedule for dancing times, and sign up for volunteering on the website for the Greek Festival.

Fast and Furriest Run

The fast and the furriest walk and run is coming up this Saturday. The races begin on Verona Street in the city at 8 a.m. This is an all-day affair.

There’s live music, food trucks, sponsor giveaways, vendors, and pet contests. Some streets in the area will close for the walk and run but they’ll reopen as the last humans and pups pass through.

Junefest

The Holley Junefest will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The events are in and around Erie Canal Park in Holley in Orleans County.

The high school band will get the party started. Then there will be bounce houses, slides, a petting zoo, vendors, food trucks, a historic scavenger hunt, and yoga.
