Wegmans to hold drives for old prescription drugs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — National Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, April 22. Locations in Rochester are accepting old prescription drugs to prevent drug abuse.

Wegmans is partnering with local law enforcement agencies to create drop-off locations at 49 of its stores on Saturday. Locally, the Wegmans locations in Brockport, Calkins Road, Chili-Paul, Geneva, Irondequoit, Lyell Ave, Mt. Read, and Penfield are accepting drugs.

The drive runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the drop-off is anonymous. Pills and patches will be accepted but not liquids, needles, or sharps. Some locations in Buffalo and Syracuse are also accepting pills.

Three locations across Genesee County are also collecting old prescription drugs. Batavia Police say medicines that remain in home cabinets are more susceptible to being misused.

You can drop off unused or expired pills on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at these locations:

• Alva Place parking lot across the street from Batavia Showtime (located in the Genesee County Mall), Batavia. The Batavia Police Department, in conjunction with United Memorial Medical Center, will be accepting prescription drugs and sharps.
• Pembroke Town Hall, 1145 Main Rd. Corfu. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office will accept prescription drugs only.
• LeRoy Police Department headquarters at 3 West Main Street, LeRoy. They will only accept prescription drugs.
