UPDATE: Man killed in Thruway crash in East Pembroke identified

UPDATE: Now we know the name of the man killed in a crash on the Thruway on Thursday. State troopers say he was 64-year-old George Rooney from Colorado.

Troopers say he was speeding when he crashed into a stopped pick-up truck. This happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in East Pembroke.

Rooney’s car went airborne and flipped over multiple times. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital but is expected to be OK.

PEMBROKE, N.Y. – State police are investigating a fatal crash on I-90 westbound, near the town of Pembroke.

At 12:13 p.m. Troopers responded to the scene of the crash near mile marker 396.6. Police say the crash involved two passenger vehicles and a tractor trailer. Officials have confirmed one person dead. No other injuries have been reported.

All westbound lanes are now back open and accident reconstruction is completed.
