PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Penfield church is working to get children in underserved communities better prepared for the first day of classes.

Browncroft Community Church collected donations of backpacks and school supplies throughout the month of August.
They ended up with 150 backpacks filled with school supplies. Schools that will benefit from the donations say students and families will be very happy.

Jason Wertz, School #10 Assistant Principal: "Kids are kids to me. Families are families. We just may have some families who need a little help and things like a simple backpack filled with supplies brings an immediate smile on faces of not only kids and siblings but moms and dads we see as well. This isn’t the first year that they’ve done this for us. So this has become a repeated blessing."

Supplies included pencils, scissors, glue sticks, pocket folders, rulers, hand sanitizers, and disinfectant wipes.
