Red Cross sends volunteers to New Jersey after historic flooding due to Hurricane Ida

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Just about a week after the Red Cross sent local volunteers to Louisiana to help clean up after Hurricane Ida, they are now sending help to New Jersey.

Jersey and parts of downstate New York were devastated by the remnants of the storm. More than 50 people died and millions of dollars in damage were left behind the flooding.

News10NBC spoke with some of the people leaving from the local chapter on Sunday.

Lois Roenke, Red Cross volunteer said, "I get more out of it than I give. The people we help are just a wealth of learning and just learning their experience and being there, being an ear for them."

Both Robert Barton and Lois have been on multiple deployments, most recently helping with wildfires in California.
