George Eastman Museum will screen 20 movies on nitrate film

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — The George Eastman Museum will screen "Portrait of Jennie" and 19 other classic movies on nitrate film at their festival to celebrate film preservation, which starts Thursday.

The museum released the movie lineup for the Nitrate Picture Show, the world’s first festival of film conservation. The festival runs from Thursday through Sunday.

Thursday’s screening, the 1948 film "Portrait of Jennie", will start at 7:30 p.m. Here is the lineup for the rest of the week:

Friday, June 3

• 10 a.m. Nitrate Shorts
• 3 p.m. Schlussakkord (Final Chord, Detlef Sierck, Germany 1936)
• 7 p.m. Meshi (Repast, Mikio Naruse, Japan 1951)
• 9:30 p.m. Rope (Alfred Hitchcock, Rope 1948)

Saturday, June 4

• 9:30 a.m. Die Freudlose Gasse (The Joyless Street, Georg Wilhelm Pabst, Germany 1925)
• 1 p.m. Cluny Brown (Ernst Lubitsch, US 1946)
• 4:30 p.m. Western Approaches (Pat Jackson, UK 1944)
• 8 p.m. Trail of the Hawk (Edward Dmytryk/Ramblin’ Tommy Scott, US 1935-1950)

Sunday, June 5

The Eastman House has the country’s largest collections of nitrate prints, preserved at the Louis B. Mayer Conservation Center.
