First Alert Weather: Cooler air to end the week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The remnants of Ida are creating big-time flooding issues in parts of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic. We missed all of the rain but will feel an impact the rest of this week.

As the low pulls away, it’ll drag down much cooler Canadian air Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows will drop into the lower to mid-50s away from Lake Ontario, and daytime highs will struggle to hit 70. In fact, it will be cool enough for a few lake-enhanced rain showers to develop later Thursday, Thursday night, and the first part of Friday.

We’ll begin to warm things up just in time for the Labor Day weekend, but it won’t be perfect. Saturday still looks like the weekend winner, with dry weather and some sun. A few showers will return on Sunday and Monday, with highs all three days in the mid-70s. While we will see some wet weather at times on Sunday and Monday, neither day will be a washout, and you shouldn’t go canceling any plans.

At this point, Tuesday looks dry, but an upper level low will help to rotate cooler air in once again for the rest of the week, which will produce hit and miss scattered showers Wednesday through Friday.

Highs by the end of the week and into next weekend may not make it out of the 70s. So, if you love the cooler and fresher air, you’ll love the next few weeks in Rochester!
