IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Fall sports season begins Monday for many schools in our area.

It’s going to feel like a more normal season than last year, even though the CDC classifies the COVID transmission rate in our community as high.

In Irondequoit, Bishop Kearney‘s football coach was getting ready.

Coach Rick Gause says he’s using what he learned during the Spring football season and applying some of it to this fall season.

He’s also telling his excited athletes to be prepared for change.

Trevor Bonhon, Bishop Kearney Junior said, "I’m really excited, really excited for this. (It’s the) first time playing in the fall since 2019, really excited for this. Ready to go out there and get at it."

"I think a lot of student athletes at Bishop Kearney and all over in Section 5 lost a lot, colleges film, but we were able to do a spring ball which was helpful but the normal spring ball season really hurt overall, the season that we didn’t have," added Rick Gause, football coach.

Coach Gause says each athlete will have individual hand sanitizer. He’s also asking his staff to ask the students who have been vaccinated. They will also be limiting the number of players in the locker room at one time.
