City of Rochester announces ‘Shot for a Shot’ vaccination event with Rochester’s NBA stars

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Some local basketball stars came back to Rochester on Tuesday to encourage teens to get vaccinated at the "Shot For a Shot" clinic, which was held at the Lightfoot R-Center.

News10NBC’s Raven Brown was there as many lined up to get their shots and meet the stars.

Five players who have left the city to pursue professional careers were there to take pictures with any teen that got their shot in hopes of letting the youth and everyone know that it is safe and effective.

The players featured were Isaiah Stewart with the Detroit Pistons, Nahziah Carter with the Atlanta Hawks, Quinton Rose with the New York Knicks and Antoine Anderson with Swiss Central.

Newly vaccinated youth ages 12 through 17 got their picture taken with them after they got their shots.

Families also had the chance to earn up to $100 for completing a child’s vaccination.

With the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the Pfizer vaccine, some of the players say they are happy they did the research and got the shot to keep their families and friends safe.

"Show support for the community, I’m here to let them know that I am vaccinated and I feel safe and I felt the need to protect myself and my family," Rose said. "I was against it honestly but I did my research and wanted to protect my loved ones so that’s why I’m here."

While there, the five players were also presented the key to the city for their hard work and encouraging the community to step up and get vaccinated.
