Yellow Alert Thursday for heat and storms

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)—The First Alert Weather Team will keep the Yellow Alert for today with the chance for showers and storms to be on the strong side this morning and afternoon.

Another line of showers and storms this morning will be moving in from the west, and as it moves in we could see strong gusty winds passing through locally. Showers will likely begin to arrive this morning around 9 a.m. and thunderstorms possibly moving in around 10 a.m.

How today plays out will depend deeply on the showers and storms this morning. If strong showers and storms roll through this morning then the atmosphere will be heavily worked over for the afternoon, hindering storm chances this afternoon greatly. However, if most showers and storms dry out this morning before making their way into our region, then we will see greater chances for showers and storms this afternoon.

Think of it like working out at the gym. If you work out hard in the morning, then lifting in the afternoon will be a struggle, and visa-versa and the atmosphere works the same way! Then, as we go into tonight we will see drying conditions before watching out for another round of showers and storms with a cold front on Friday.
