Yellow Alert Thursday for heat and storms

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Thursday will be another steamy and stormy day. The First Alert Weather Team has put up another Yellow Alert for Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to approach 90 degrees, with dew points in the upper 60s and lower 70s. This will not only make it feel like the mid-90s again during the afternoon and early evening, but it’ll fuel some strong to potentially severe storms.

There are still some questions regarding the timing of these storms. There is the potential for an early round of storms during the morning hours, similar to what we saw Wednesday. With peak heating and the approach of a cold front, we may see another round of convection during the afternoon. Either round may produce a few severe storms with potentially damaging winds, lightning and heavy rain.

Another chance for some stronger storms may come on Friday with the passage of the cold front, but this is a low confidence forecast. The First Alert Weather Team will keep you updated on-air and online.

Relief from the heat, and a much quieter weather pattern arrives this weekend.
