ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — President Joe Biden reacted to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation at the White House earlier Tuesday.

Biden said he did not speak with Cuomo before his resignation and Cuomo did not give the administration advance notice.

When asked what he thought about the announcement, the president said, "I respect the governor’s decision and I respect the decision he made."

He said that Cuomo has been an effective leader, but it was time for him to go.

"He’s done a hell of a job," Biden said. "Access to voting, infrastructure, a whole range of things. That’s why it’s so sad."

Biden joined those calling for Cuomo’s resignation after the State Attorney General’s report last week, even though the two were once close political allies.
