$850K REDI flood prevention project wraps up in Greece

GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — A state project aimed to curb potential flooding along Lake Ontario just wrapped up for neighbors along the shore in the Town of Greece, the state announced Monday.

Construction was completed on an $850,000 storm sewer upgrade as part of New York’s Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI). The project involved replacing the existing storm sewer system and installing check valves to prevent backflows.

The work went on at the intersection of Edgemere and Island Cottage, which is prone to flooding and storm sewer system backflow during high water flow. The state says the completed project will curb the effect the water could have and keep roads from being blocked by water.

A new $ 1.8 million REDI project is underway in the Irondequoit Bay area.
