First Alert Weather: Hottest weather of the season will arrive this week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — This Sunday evening will feature the usual amounts of muggy conditions with lows in the upper 60s. There will be the chance of a thundershower early, especially in the Finger Lakes, then just hazy skies for the remainder of the overnight.

Make sure your fan or air conditioning is working well for the week. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists are forecasting four consecutive days of 90° or higher this week.

This heat wave will begin on Monday and last through Thursday. Each day will feature partly sunny skies with the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. The maximum temperature will range between 90 to 92° with an expected heat index between 91 to 98°. Again, the heat index is a comfort index, which is the combination of temperature and humidity and how that feels on the human body.

Since this is our first heat wave of the season, make sure you take precautions during the hottest portions of the day. Make sure you drink plenty of water, wear light-colored clothing, and try to work or exercise during the early morning or late evening.

The First Alert 10-Day Forecast shows that relief will arrive by Friday and Saturday. A cold front will knock down the heat on Friday, with a few thunderstorms expected, then much lower humidity is expected by next weekend. It appears much more comfortable weather will be returning for Saturday and Sunday.
