ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries and a third as a precaution after a crash on I-490 near Exit 25 Monday afternoon.

The crash backed up traffic on I-490 eastbound between exits 23 and 25.

New York State Police say the crash happened just after 3 p.m. near Exit 25.

Troopers say a person driving a sedan fell asleep and sideswiped a pickup truck that was also headed eastbound, causing the sedan to flip.

The driver of the sedan was thrown from the car and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries, according to troopers. There was also a passenger in the car, who troopers say was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was taken to Strong with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Strong as a precaution, according to troopers.

News10NBC Reporter Jennifer Lewke went to the scene and saw a pickup truck on a tow truck and a sedan flipped over.

She also saw traffic backed up for miles at around 4:15 p.m. Traffic was being directed off of I-490 at Exit 23 near St. John Fisher College.

I-490 Eastbound has reopened as of 4:45 p.m., but traffic was still slow-going for a while.

State Police are still investigating the crash.
