With heavy rain passed, flash flood watch has ended

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The First Alert Weather Team will discontinue the Yellow alert after midnight Saturday morning.

A flash flood watch has ended for all of Western New York, but a flood warning remains posted for Irondequoit Creek through Sunday. In addition, area creeks and streams are running very high but should recede slowly over the next 24 hours.

Thus far the more significant rainfall totals have been over the western counties of Wyoming and Genesee where rainfall amounts were in the range of 3 to 5 inches.

The Rochester Airport measured almost 3 inches of rain which set a new record for July 17. The old rainfall record, which was just 2.04 inches, has stood since 1873.

Remember: watch for ponding on area roads and do not attempt to cross any flooded roadways.

The remainder of the overnight will feature more intermittent showers and patches of drizzle.

It will be a soggy start to your Sunday with passing light showers likely, but skies should begin to brighten later in the day. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side for Sunday with readings in the mid-70s.

Look for more improvement in the weather for Monday and Tuesday. It will not be completely rain-free, but we expect more sunshine and warmer temperatures for the start of the workweek.
