Yellow Alert Saturday for the possibility of heavy rain and a few storms

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The First Alert Weather team is putting up a Yellow Alert on Saturday for a wet, and potentially stormy day.

A wave of low pressure will move through, lifting a warm front into western New York with some heavy rain and thunder, followed by another wave of rain possible during the afternoon. If some of these storms get going during the afternoon, we could see some gusty winds, especially in the Finger Lakes.

One of the greatest weather issues with Saturday will be the potential for another round of heavy rain. We have seen several rounds of heavy rain recently, and another wave falling on an already soggy ground could lead to some flooding issues.

The timing and placement of the heaviest rain and potential storms is still up in the air, but many of you may have plans outdoors on Saturday.

A Yellow Alert is our way of giving a "heads up" to pay close attention to what could be a very changeable and impactful weather day.
