Do the Right Thing: Jeryca volunteers at Foodlink and other organization

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC is celebrating the winners of this spring’s Do the Right Thing Award. Meet Jeryca Starling from Brighton High School.

Jeryca received the award for her volunteer work and her role model behavior. She volunteers at Foodlink and sorts clothing and other items at the thrift store in East Rochester, “A Second Thought”.

Jeryca dances with Heart of Dance, which is a group of dancers of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds. She’s always been willing to help any of the dancers and has added her own choreography to several songs.

Jeryca’s older brother, Peyton, won the Do the Right Thing Award when he was in 11th grade in 2013.

The Do the Right Thing Awards, organized by the Rochester Police Department since 1995, recognizes students for their courage, kindness, heroism, leadership, or other attributes.

Any student enrolled in grades K-12 in any Monroe County school is eligible for nomination. The good deed the student is nominated for must have occurred in Monroe County within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form (this includes family, friends, school staff, coaches, etc.).
