First Alert Weather: Hot & humid once again with much-needed rain towards the end of the week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Another hot and humid day on the way with dew points near 70 and temperatures in the mid-80s. This combination will again make it feel warmer out there with heat indices in the lows 90s this afternoon.

Also, we will be watching out for an isolated shower or storm, but most of us will remain under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Another round of rain and thunderstorms will move in late tonight as a cold front continues to slowly approach from the west.

Out the door early tomorrow, many of us will need to grab the umbrella. Shower chances will continue through the morning hours Wednesday before drier weather moves in for a brief period during the afternoon.

A third round of rain is expected on Thursday. Our cold front finally moves into and through the region with the possibility of well-needed rain! Elsa will begin to move along the Carolinas and up the East Coast, and pump in tropical moisture locally.

This will bring us a better chance for showers and a chance for some beneficial rain throughout the day Thursday. Relief from the humidity will come behind the front towards the end of the week as dew points drop back into the 50s starting late Thursday evening.

Also, if you have noticed a hazy sky over the last day or so, it is not because of the humidity but because of wildfire smoke that has moved in from wildfires in Canada. No threat to air quality is expected as this smoke is in the upper levels of the atmosphere, but this smoke will make for some pretty pictures during sunrise and sunset. The sun will have a reddish color to it rather than the normal yellow look.

This smoke will likely remain in the upper levels of the atmosphere until our cold front swings south and takes the smoke with it.
