NEWARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — Police say a false call led to a large investigation in Wayne County.

Newark Police say they had to deploy a SWAT team after someone reported a false incident, claiming a man barricaded himself inside a home on South Avenue in Newark and that he had shot his wife and neighbor.

News10NBC’s crews made it to the scene at around 5:30 p.m. Monday. They saw law enforcement leave the area near South Avenue, on the corner of Bailey Lane and Highland Avenue, just after 7 p.m.

The call prompted a huge response from law enforcement, but it turns out it was a false call, and the home is completely vacant and up for sale.

Newark Police and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office are investigating who made the call and why.
