Building partially collapses in downtown Buffalo

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Crews worked throughout the night Friday to take down a Buffalo building that partially collapsed earlier in the day.

Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo says that the three-story building collapsed at Genesee and Oak streets just before 11 a.m. Friday.

He says there are no injuries. There were construction workers in an adjacent building. They were able to evacuate safely. A pickup truck parked in front of the collapsed building was damaged.

Renaldo says the city will partially demolish what’s left of the building and bring in structural engineers to determine what to do with what’s left of the building.

According to our Buffalo affiliates, the owners bought the building during the height of the pandemic. They were working on a stabilization plan after neglect from the previous owner. The building previously belonged to a man named Bruce Adler.

Alder also owned a different building in Buffalo that partially collapsed in 2019. That building later had to be demolished.
