Dozens celebrate Independence Day as new American citizens
MUMFORD, N.Y. – The Honorable Judge Peterson swore in 47 people from 31 countries as new American citizens on Tuesday.
The naturalization ceremony was part of an Independence Day celebration at Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford. The celebration included a 19th-century-style parade with patriotic tunes. There was also a reading of Frederick Douglass’ 1852 speech “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”
The historic village also celebrated with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a ladies’ vintage baseball game, and a pie eating competition.
