ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Here’s a Good Question about your votes- Joseph sent News10NBC this message: "How long does New York State or Monroe County keep the in-person votes and mail-in ballots? And are they kept in a secure facility?"

Those are good questions, and here’s the answer to both. Under New York State election law, ballots are held for two years after the election, then they are destroyed.

As for where they’re held? Ballots are kept at locked secure locations with your local board of elections, Democrats and Republicans each have a key to the room, and you need both to get in.
