First Alert Weather: Some rain on the way… but will it end before Memorial Day?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We have had four days in a row with dry weather, but it appears this is about to change. This dry weather has been due to a ridge of high pressure that stretches from the eastern Great Lakes to the east coast.

That high-pressure system will give way to a warm front by later tonight and Thursday. That means the weather will slowly deteriorate over the next 24 to 36 hours. The recommendation is to keep the umbrella handy for later tomorrow and tomorrow night and then again into Friday.

Tonight look for partly to mostly cloudy skies and it should remain dry. It will not be as cool as last night with the low temperature in the upper 50s. Thursday will bring partial sunshine with just the small chance of an afternoon shower, especially west of Rochester. The humidity will be on the increase with the high temperature near 80 degrees. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists expect the probability of rain to increase significantly for Friday evening with showers likely and even a thunderstorm possible. We will continue to monitor conditions, but at this time no severe storms are expected. The low temperature will be in the middle 60s.

Friday look for another passing shower or thundershower possible. Expect plenty of humidity with a high temperature in the middle to upper 70s. Once we start the holiday weekend, the showers are expected to dwindle for Saturday morning. Skies will become partly sunny later in the afternoon. It will be a little cooler with most of the day spent in the upper 60s. Sunday looks to be a winner with plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and lower humidity. The high temperature will be in the upper 70s. Memorial Day will feature more sunshine with more heat and humidity. It will truly feel like the start of summer with the high temperature in the upper 80s.
