ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester City Council approved the sale of the East End garage to the University of Rochester on Tuesday night, while holding off a vote on turning over the ownership of its parking garages downtown.
City Council was to vote on whether to sell the city’s four garages for $16 million. Council voted to approve the East End garage sale for $4,447,000. The other garage votes — for the Mortimer Street, Court Street and Washington Square garages, to out-of-town investors — were held on recommendation of the council’s Neighborhood and Business Development Committee.
After 2025, the city would have no say over these four garages.
City Council voted to authorize construction at the Rochester Water Works building at High Falls and funding for an upgrade on the riverside part of Blue Cross Arena. It also voted to apply for state funds for reconstruction projects throughout the city and enhancements to places including Mount Hope Cemetery and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.
