Teen charged with murder may be connected to other violent crimes in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 17-year-old is behind bars, accused of killing a man in Rochester earlier this year.

Kyelon Marbury was arrested Friday night at a hotel in Henrietta, tracked down by the U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force and members of RPD’s SWAT team.

Major Crimes Unit Capt. Frank Umbrino say Marbury has been charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of 35-year-old Jermain Wilkins as he was walking down Denver Street in February.

Hours before that homicide, police contend Marbury fired a 9mm handgun at a man walking on Scio Street, missing him.

News10NBC is publishing Marbury’s photo in the interest of public safety. Umbrino said Marbury could be connected to other violent crimes – including guns, assaults, and stolen cars – and they want anyone with information about him to call them.

“I’m not saying that he hasn’t been or isn’t linked to other crimes. I can’t say at this point in time. He’s being charged with these two crimes right now. But what I can tell you is that the investigation is very active. The reason they are releasing his photo is because I know there are people who know this individual, who have probably been victimized by this individual, and have seen this individual committing other violent acts,” Umbrino said.

Investigators have known about Marbury, Umbrino said, for “some time.” Additional charges against him may be presented to a Monroe County Grand Jury.

Marbury is also facing first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon charges.

He was arraigned on Saturday morning without the offer of bail and was taken to the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center in Rush.
