Men found shot on Lyell Avenue and Sherman Street amid violent weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester Police are investigating two shootings: One man was found on Lyell Avenue, at the corner of Whitney Street, and another on Sherman Street. 

Captain Ryan Tauriello said that just after 4:20 Sunday afternoon police responded to the area after reports of a man shot. When they arrived, they found a man in his 30’s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds considered not to be life-threatening.  

Police later located a second victim on Sherman Street. Police said the second victim’s injuries are non-life threatening at this time. Police said both victims were shot on Lyell Avenue and Whitney Street.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect involved in these shootings, which certainly seems to be happening more frequently, especially in the past three days. 

In total, nine people have been shot since early Friday morning and two of them have died. Police also found a woman’s body inside a home, which they’re investigating as a murder.

Early Friday morning, a woman was shot on Jefferson Avenue by Champlain Street. Hours later, a man was shot on Jefferson by West Main Street.

Then, Friday afternoon, a 17-year-old boy was shot on Jefferson by Nellis Park. Not long after that, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old shot near Jefferson. The 15-year-old died.

Also Friday afternoon, a man was shot and killed on North Goodman Street near Diringer Place. That same day, a 38-year-old woman was found dead inside a home on Whitney Street.

On Saturday just before midnight, a man shot was shot on Villa Street. Another man was shot on Hobart Street just after midnight on Sunday, the same day as the shootings on Lyell Avenue and Whitney Street.
