First Alert Weather: Warmer air is on the way

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Temperatures have begun their slow ascent from the beginning of the week, with highs back into the mid and upper 60s Tuesday, and we’ll head into the 70s on Wednesday.

Thursday should flirt with 80 before our next cold front arrives on Friday. This will knock us back into the 60s to start the holiday weekend, but as timing would have it, we’ll welcome in more summer air for the "unofficial start of summer." Highs on Sunday should rebound back into the 70s, with 80s on Memorial Day, and a good likelihood of lower 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

We’ll remain dry on Wednesday, with most of Thursday dry, as well. There’s a chance for a late-day shower as moisture increases ahead of a cold front, but the majority of the day should be rain-free. That will change on Friday, as a wave of low pressure moves overhead. There’s a good chance of showers on Friday, with some thunder possible. We’re still looking at the likelihood of some showers on Saturday, but it shouldn’t be a washout. We’ll be able to fine-tune the timing of the showers a little better Wednesday or Thursday. Data is starting to agree more on a drier solution for Sunday and Monday, with mainly dry weather, and warming temperatures. This is still a low to moderate confidence forecast, and we’ll continue to monitor any changes to the trend, but we’re liking where things are headed for the holiday weekend. Our next chance of widespread rain after this upcoming Friday probably won’t come until the end of NEXT week.
